The 7 Creative Strategies

Creative Strategies
Graphic Design

This a series of designs made by me, a BYU-Idaho Student, based off of the creative strategies that were set forth to fulfill the requirements of my project. The seven creative strategies are combination, juxtaposition, isolation, metaphor/simile, change of context or environment, physical shape similarity, and material change, swap, or focus.

Process
The process of this project begins with brainstorming and sketching out different ideas. The sketching process takes time and allows to get all ideas out in the open while exploring the different paths to take.

The Final Images
From primitive sketches comes the final images and the ideas come to life.
1. Combination- Here I took an ice cream cone and combined it with a lightbulb to play on the imagination and to show the lightbulb in a different context.
2. Juxtaposition: The title of this piece is called "Speak lightly."  Here I combined a mouth, and made the lightbulbs into teeth. This piece combines two different elements while showing off their unique differences at the same time.
3. Isolation: The purpose of this composition was to take the lightbulb and set it apart from its' environment. Although everything on the canvas is the same object, the break from the uniformity allows the unique object to stand out.
4. Metaphor/Simile: The title of this piece is called "The light in your eyes." It plays on the metaphor or the saying that people have or carry a light in their eyes.
5. Change of Context or Environment: This composition shows that you can take a common household item and imagine it in a different context, such as a fishbowl.
6. Physical Shape/Similarity: This creative strategy also requires that you take an object and imagine it as something with a similar shape. Here, I took a lightbulb and reimagined it as a snow globe.
7. Material change, swap, or focus: The title of this composition is "Light the World," it takes the Earth and swaps it with that of a lightbulb.
